Codeine vs Hydrocodone nausea/vomiting

My friend had taken 100mg of codeine and he felt like throwing up all night (but was not that bad). The buzz he had was very very nice and joyfull but this nausea kep on coming back.

He was wondering if hydrocodone does the same thing as far as the nausea goes?

You will probably not have as much trouble with the hydro compared to the codeine. I've seen many people have unpleasant highs off codeine, when at the same time, they do fine with hydro.

Everyone reacts differently to Opiates/Opioids. I used to be able to take up to 80mgs of Oxycodone (without hardly any tolerance), and around 40mgs of Hydrocodone (I know it has just about the same potency as Oxycodone, but I don't like the higher doses) without vomiting or receiving any significant nausea. I was like that for a long time, but now 15mgs of Hydrocodone and 10mgs of Oxycodone can make me somewhat nauseated. I have always been very sensitive to Opiates, though I could handle alot (meaning I could get high from 5mgs of Hydro/Oxy, but I could handle high doses). Lately, I cannot handle the higher doses, and it is not necessary for me to take higher doses to get my desired effect.

Codeine in doses of 250mg+ has given me nausea, though not anything that really bothered me. Strangely Morphine and its derivatives (Hydromorphone and Heroin) have never given me much nausea and still don't.

The only way to really find out is to try it. Start low with the doses. I have known people to take 5mgs of Oxycodone and be sick for hours, and I've known people to take 20mgs and not feel anything at all. However, if your friend took 100mgs of Codeine and enjoyed the buzz, they will definitely recognize the effect of Hydrocodone. Many people may disagree, but to some people 100mgs of Codeine may be too much. Going back to my sensitivity, I get mild euphoria from 30mgs of Codeine. My suggestion is to try 5-7.5mgs of Hydrocodone and work your way up.

As for the above post, it is true, though I LOVE Codeine. I have a strange relationship with Opiates. I take whatever I'm in the mood for. There have been times that I've taken Codeine over a nice OxyContin 40mg pill.

Actually hydrocodone is only 2/3 the potency of oxy. That doesn't seem right to me...you could take 80mg of oxy or 40mg of hydro? It's just weird how you could take 2x more of the stronger drug. Oh well...more power to ya.

You misread me a little.. I can take more than 40mgs of Hydrocodone, but I don't like the feeling of the higher doses. If I am going to dose high on one of these Opioids, I would rather it be Oxycodone.

I understand better now. Hydro is still a little weaker than oxy. What type of ways were you taking either drug (as in what type of product). I wonder why high doses of hydro aren't that great for you.

You should end up with the same chance of nausea at the same degree with Vicodin as you did with codeine. The moe that you use opioids the more that symptom will go away.

Glad to say that I'm way past my puking days. :) However, give me a couple bottles of fruit juice and an 80mg OC and it's over for good. I'll throw up for hours if I drink too much.

I have always found that codeine causes much more nasuea in me than hydro or oxy. It also causes a worse hangover the next day, as does morphine. I think if you asked anyone in the medical field they would tell you that a much higher percentage of people have "adverse reaction" to codeine than the other prescription pain killers. (this was told to me by a doctor.)

yea, bah@hydrocodone. i love oxy so much better in more ways than one. vics will make me really stick too.

LeadSingerDisease, I take Oxycodone orally or nasally, but I only take Hydrocodone orally. Hydrocodone just doesn't feel right for me past 35-40mgs. It tends to have uncomfortable side effects, but Oxycodone doesn't for me at high doses. I love both of them though.

codeine is fuckin nasty. it's not even worth taking, if you ask me. codeine is extra nasty because most of it contains caffiene, which can really really add to stomach pain.
vicoden usually doesn't have this effect on my stomach, unless i take like more than 10, and still all i usually get is the hiccups.

yea caffien fucks with you in high doses, it can actually cause death if you take too much (not even an extremly high ammount either!)
