transdermal buprenorphine

I searched and have not found any threads on Norspan.I cant believe this has not been talked about more unless i did not search properly. It is transdermal buprenorphine(the opioid found in subutex, temgesic, suboxone). It is called Norspan and i think available in some countires in europe. Anyone ever have this prescribed.

I was prescribed it. It wasn't so good. It seems to be coming more popular since the addiction liability of buprenorphine is less than with full agonists.

In UK there are two transdermal buprenorphine products available at the moment:
BuTrans 5, 10 and 20ug/h Transdermal Patch
Transtec 35, 52.5 and 70 micrograms transdermal patch

I hope the Summaries of Product Characteristics behind those links can give you more information about these products.

Its such a low dose though. Its 70ug of buprenorphine per hour, some of them only 35ug per hour, I mean what could that do? There is a lot in the patch with the highest concentration though, 40mg buprenorphine. I guess you could find a way to cut it in quarters and take it sublingually or maybe using buccal administration (through the cheek).

I was in a research drug study at NIDA in baltimore 2 summers ago and it was for a new bupe skin patch. this one wasnt meant for pain, but for WD and addiction. the doctors said the patch would last for 3 days but it was more like two. it did keep me feeling well...they were maintaining me on hydromorphone before i got the patch. i had to get sick first before i got the patch...but overall i thought it worked well.

the patch looked kinda like a UFO, like it was a circle shape but there was a dish/resevoir ontop of it, they had to put it on carefully cause the first patch they put on, some of the bupe spilled out on the guys arm and it got him high he said.
