ativan/lorazepam vs. xanax/alprazolam

are lorazepam and xanax the same thing? i mean i know they are both for anxiety and such but 2 different meds, but do you get the same benzo high from lorazepam as you do xanax? i usually get high off of 1-2mg of xanax would it be the same dosage for lorazepam(ativan)
on a edited note:
i was thinking xanax was diazapam (sp) but its alprazolam i see...is the diazapam another name for valium? if not then what is it? if it is the same thing as valium would ativan be the same thing to?

first off xanax's chemical name isn't diazepam, its alprazolam.

secondly, the "high" is very different. lorazepam is claimed by many to be hardly recreational or even sedating at all, while xanax on the other hand is the very opposite. lorazepam certainly kills anxiety, but its hardly sedating and not really all that fun to take. if you like xanax, you'll be WAY dissappointed with lorazepam.

I want to recommend that you change your title as follows
Ativan/Lorazepam vs. Xanax/Alprazolam
Go to EDIT and change the title
Xanax is alprazolam, not diazepam.

There is difference between these two benzodiazepines, as there are many benzodiazepines with different properties. Lorazepam lasts maybe an hour longer than alprazolam and they both have anxiolytic properties. I find Lorazepam better for anxiety without much recreational effects and I find that Alprazolam works best for panic attacks and it has recreational effects. Alprazolam is my favorite benzodiazepine while Lorazepam one of my least. Alprazolam is the only benzodiazepine that makes me feel euphoric at the right dose. Aside, there are other properties to Alprazolam that I enjoy more than most benzodiazepines. Lorazepam is half in potency in a mg to mg basis.

Lorazapam is probally the best drug for anxiety relief. Can be euphoric, but really only shines when combined with other drugs.

Valium seems more euphoric to me, and I've never tried Xanax.

i think that xanax is a much better drug to do recreationally than ativan. xanax is great when combining with just the right amount of alcohol too, you'll get fucked up. dont over do it though because that will spell blackout, and personally i think that makes it all a waste of cash.

Maybe it's just me... but I used to get scripts for ativan for a few years to relieve anxiety and I always got a euphoric feeling from them when I took more than the recommended dose. I'm now on Xanax and it gives me no euphoria at all. When I take more than the recommended dose, I just get sleepy. I prefer Xanax over Ativan because I was addicted to the ativans for a while and I only want to use benzos now to relieve my anxiety and NOT to get high. I guess I'm saying that I found ativan to be much more recreational than xanax.

I have tried it once at 2mg in the evening, with 100mg oxazepam and 20mg diazepam taken earlier that day(the oxazepam and diazepam was my daily prescribed dose before). I am addicted to benzos and the lorazepam worked, but it wasn't satisfying. For me it was like oxazepam, it just got me trough.

Xanax is the best benzo in my opinion, no doubt about that. It wipes out anexiety and is as euphoric as benzos can get. 2mg's of that is always a big change for the better!

Peace

i`ve been using benzos for 18 years, tried everything valium, xanax, lorezepam restoril ativan etc. the best benso for anxiety or panic attack is xanax and for long term panic attack is valium which stays in your system much longer than any of the benzo family. i did tried to end my life before because of my anxiety and some personal problems, i took 10 tabs of 10 mg of valium i though i won`t wake up for the rest of my life but nope ytried ativan lesser effect now i`m trying xanax its more potent but it is short live. now i`m a pill popper which im trying to recover from my addiction taking amaller dosage one day at a time, been there so i hope you guys be careful and be cautious in taking these pills.

i'm surprised so many people enjoy alprazolam here.... i mean it's good for panic and anxiety attacks... but what makes it better than other benzos, or is it just because more people know what xanax is and not the others?

one pill lasts an hour at best, at least for me.. once it's worn off, you're left with a headache and rebound anxiety that was worse than the last time you re-dosed to avoid it=hella addictive

ativan is my absolute favorite benzo...unfortunately i don't get it scripted anymore since my insurance ran out and it seems like it's rarely scripted these days it is the only one that truly rids me of anxiety and helps me to get some sleep when i have insomnia and really need to rest

valium is #2 favorite since it's excellent for any situation..and like with ativan, there's no hangover/crash/burn out period like with xanax. the sedating effects at around 20-40mg over a few hours sort of normalize me to a level of clear-headedness that wasn't cluttered with so much nervous energy/anxiety and tension. as for panic/anxiety attacks, i say it's the ultimate benzo for that... and recreationally, provides me with the best buzz out of any benzo i've come upon

i guess people without much anxiety get high off the short-acting benzos better then.

but shit, xanax always made me passive aggressive then extremely irritable and depressed once i crashed. i got way too addicted to that shit......
and it actually turned me into an insomniac

interesting stuff. drive safe kids. don't lock your keys in your car (like i used to do everyday)

peace

Xanax is not water soluble, it cannot be shot with water alone.

As for the thread, I'm going to lock this. Basic questions about specific benzodiazepines, or the class of them itself, can be discussed in BDD, hence the name - basic drug discussion.

I know this was posted a long time ago, but I'm still going to lock it.

If you all had specific intentions over bringing this thread up again specifically, please message me.
